Kaew is beautiful and he can draw wonderful pictures. I have one of his and it is wonderful.

    • Thank Karen for your comments. Kaew is one of the most talented elephants at TECC, He deserves great gens from his mom Singha Khon who is regarded as the best moth of elephant we have now..

      • Karen Andersen says:

Wow! Yes, Singha Khon is a great elephant for sure. Kaew is very even in temperment. Very gentle and very smart. I think he loves his mahout cleaning his tusks too. He doesn’t walk off, he stays until his mahout is finished. So he is very obedient too.

    • Robin Kelly says:

I also have a beautiful painting that Kaew created and someone took a photo of him while he was painting it and sent that to me as well. How wonderful all the elephants are. Smart, gentle, social and loyal, kinder than most humans. What more could you ask for? Oh yes – musically and artfully talented as well.

      • Karen Andersen says:

You are so right! I can’t wait to return the end of May. The following year I will retire and spend at least 6 months of the year in THailand – just to be close to all of the elephants. I am not sure where I will stay yet, but I am sure I will figure something out. I just can’t stay away. This is my home.

        • Robin Kelly says:

Well – you need to get a job at the TECC. They can put you on their payroll! I have never been to Thailand, but I love elephants and always have. I visit in my mind every day. Maybe someday…

          • Karen Andersen says:

You know, nothing in the world is perfect. It took me all of my life to connect with the elephants. I never knew them – really knew them, until I started going – it will be seven years this May. I never dreamed, ever, that I would ride an elephant or feed and elephant, any place in the world, let alone Thailand. This is nothing short of amazing to me. TECC would never be able to pay me and they really don’t have a place for me to stay. Hopefully I will be able to stay in Lampang and commute by bus when I am able. I wouldn’t do the “program” as I won’t be able to afford that on a regular basis. But just to visit with them would be wonderful.

          • Robin Kelly says:

I see that Supat says there may be a chance you can volunteer. See what I started? You will be very happy living there I think – especially if you can have a real tie to the TECC. How wonderful.

  2. Hi Karen – Would TECC let you volunteer everyday since you have been there so much and know everybody????

    • Karen Andersen says:

Wow, that would be fantastic. Just to be around the elephants and everyone, all my friends, I could help new visitors to understand what TECC does, what the mahouts do, how wonderful the elephants are. That would be a real dream.

      • There is a tiny chance to be at TECC about being the volunteer as we need some English Native speaker to help us about English in the paper like Brochure or leaflet.. Soon I will talk with my boss about this..

That would be great I would be happy to help where ever you need it. 2014 can’t come fast enough for me :) In the meantime I may be volunteering at Naresuan University teaching conversational English to the nursing students. I am thinking that I could spend part of my time there and then live in Lampang the rest of the time and take the bus and visit with the elephants during the day.
