Pumpaung is at the Nursery now with her Boon Long

It was deeply sad for us at TECC that Pumpaung had still birth of her second baby last month, we found that her baby was boy with his weigh about 130 Kilograms. The baby elephant death during delivery and the doctor found that the baby was too big and take too for labor process..

Luckily Pumpaung is lucky enough to survive for this hard time..  Any way Pumpaung still have to nurse and take care of lovely adopted baby elephant Boon Long at the Elephant Nursery which is very closed to the Elephant Hospital…

Thank for the mahouts and the vets who are very dedicated to keep their eyes to watch and take care of Pumpaung during delivery..

  1. Hi Supat – Just a note of thanks for always keeping me posted on what is going on at TECC – also for always sending me notices of pictures of our beloved elephants. I always wonder how LookKhang is doing.. I miss her and think always of her. Wish I had the money to come each year to see her and all of you. But your pictures help a lot. love Emily Fanning

    • Thank Emily for your comments.. I will do my best for every one.. Now Look Khang is working as the taxi elephant with her mother.. She was in the forest for a year and now working normally.. All taxi elephants have less job as in rainy season we have less tourists.. I will add more photo and story of elephant later..

I am so so sorry for Pampuang & her mahout (I am sorry I forget his name) but it is a blessing that they still have boon long to look after. It was so wonderful to feed him his bottle but I can only hope tht Pampuang can now nurse him without the bottle & that the both thrive & do well.

    • Tawon is the mahout of Pumpuang he is very dedicated person as the spend sleepless night watching his elephant when the baby elephant was dropped into the floor he just rush to watch his elephant and found the baby elephant is still..

      Thank for your comments.

This happened also with Prathida, too long of labor, very hard on the baby and the mother. I hope the vets will be more attentive should this happen again. everyone suffers. When vets see that the labor is so long and hard they should be able to intervene and assist in the delivery instead of just watching and waiting because the results will be the same – not good.

    • Thank Karen for your comments… We only prayed for Pumpuang to deliver her second baby easily as any operation on the case like this most of the mother will die. So the vet only give them some inject to stimulate labor process to go faster as the baby elephant needs oxygen after the umbilical cord was detached..

Any way I wish there will be a lot of baby elephant will be born more again in Thailand..

Yes I understand that to operate would put the mother in great danger. They couldn’t do that. I hope you are right, that Pum and Prathida will once again have babies. And Wanalee is getting older also, so perhaps she will one day have a baby, even though, she will always be a baby to me, hard to believe I have known her since she was eleven years old. Now I see Khalang and Ai, and they are growing up too! Can’t wait to see you all again next year.

Oh Supat, my heart is so sad to hear this. I am glad that Pumpaung is OK (I had a dream about her last week!). It is interesting that the world gave her an orphaned healthy baby to raise instead of her own baby… I am glad she has so successfully adopted little Boon Long. Please send my regards to Tawon.

    • Thank Lorin for your lovely comments.. Boon Long is very beautiful baby elephant.. He is very sweet and calmer than naughty Singha.. Pumpuang is very fine to have Boon Long as her adopted baby..

Hi Supat, This is very sad news about Pumpaung’s calf. I was only telling some friends that a baby was due to born very soon at TECC. Truly was not expecting to hear sad news like this. I am pleased that Pumpaung has successfully adopted Boon Long as her own. Looking forward to see them both very soon. I will bring them Sunflower seeds.

    • Karen Andersen says:

Steve, you are an angel with the sunflower seeds, they love them so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I miss them so much. Please give them lots of hugs from me.

  6. Hi Steve,

  7. Karen Andersen says:

I know they were building the new stable for taxi elephants and they were to begin to build new place for shows. So when I come again the end of May or beginning of June, perhaps these will be complete. The following year if everything goes ok I will be spending at least six to eight months in Thailand. Then I will not have to miss all my good friends and beloved elephants ever again.
